Anyone been to the Mooseburger Clown Arts Camp before? Thoughts? I'm thinking of going this year.
I have heard nice things about it. I have not attended
I have been going to Mooseburger Camp for 2 years now, I'm going again this year...it's worth it. Moosecamp is a performance based education, which means it focuses on the performance side of clowning more. It's a very intense but educational week, the staff push you to do your best. And rest when you can, it was alot to take in my first year...I wanted to do everything, lol. The staff and campers eat together with a banquet style meal, you are encouraged to ask any questions clowning related to the staff if you are curious.
It's also fun too with the moose mingle and other fun activities among the half day of classes. There is a pep talk with the owner of the camp to help you make the most out of your week at camp, whatever skills you want to focus on or develop more. That's what determines what classes will be recommended during the week for you during the pep talk. It's goal oriented, and has a purpose. You will be ripping and running from one class to another, with 3 banquet style meals a day except for the first (the day starts late)and last day(everyone is packed up and out by 11am). At the end of the week, there is an all star clown show all campers can participate in...you are taught a routine by one of the staff assigned.
As well as work on it the whole week at camp...they make time for practice too. The all star clown show is part of your graduation performance for the entire week you were at camp ...you get a nice certificate on the last day saying you completed the intensive program. This camp is great for beginners and advanced clowns...you'll walk away with something you can use for your clowning. The classes are taught by a clown staff with a collective of 50+ years of experience overall. Everyone learns from each other there.
It's a shared experience, the location is perfect. They just moved to camp friendship, it's a secluded camp in the countryside of Annandale, Minnesota with a wonderful lake view. It's no wifi, we are deep in the wooded area. Great place to really focus while at camp. If you come from city life, this experience wil be unique. Also ,able to learn clowning without life's distractions.
It's like a clown bubble that is hyper focused on clowning for an entire week, and the camp is modeled after the famous Ringling brothers clown College minus the 10 week training. It's condensed into a week, most of the staff have either taught...auditioned and/or got on the show. They actually went through the process at some point before they closed the clown College down for good. You get an addendum of tips and valuable information from some of the best clowns in the clowning community, and the thing is...you have to pay the cost to attend camp like everyone else to get this information. The entire addendum is copyrighted by Priscilla Mooseburger Originals. So you basically get clowning advice from clowns who have been clowning for 50+ in the form of articles written by them personally.
It's valuable information you are walking away with as well as a wonderful but intense week at Mooseburger Clown. Yes, Mooseburger Camp is expensive for one week. But think about Moosecamp as investment into your clown education. You are actually able to write it off on your taxes too, just to make up for the cost if you want. The cost is broken down into a monthly payment plan to make it easier on the campers pockets.
As well as other benefits like discounted hotel stays before and after camp, and a bus that picks up campers from the airport and the selected hotel. The catch is when they pick you up from either location, they dress as clown camp counselors to welcome everyone. The bus service is included in the price of attending the camp, it takes campers from the designated location of pickup to the actual camp and back. It's one way there and one way back. If you are familiar with clown conventions, you would normally have to find your own way to the event happening or carpool with other people going too. At moosecamp you wouldn't have to worry about transportation to the camp after you fly into the airport in Minnesota. The camp takes care of that. Or you can drive there too...they give you a map so you don't get lost on the way there...it's your choice
There are two rules for camp: The staff always says water, water, water(you will be doing alot of activity, don’t forget to stop and drink water). And don't miss the bus(if you get left, it's not coming back. It's a one way trip back). It's worth the experience, you'll be learning and playing with other clowns in a supportive/learning based environment. It's a very unique experience and one of the best clown camps in the United States. Anyways, hope that helped and I hope to see you at moosecamp to join in on the fun someday.
@dorianak Wow! Thank you for the information. I will be seeing you there this summer! I already registered and did my PEP talk and have my flight booked from BWI. It looks like a lot of fun and I'm really excited to go. By the way, I heard you are spearheading the Old Line Clown Brigade and you are in Freestate #30. I just joined Freestate a couple of months ago. I'm interested in joining Old Line as well. Look me up on Instagram. I just started an account for my clown, @marble.the.clown. There's another Marble on there, but I'm the one with not many pictures (yet!). Thanks!
@mattm3 That's great news, you're gonna have a blast at camp. Also, I'm not with freestate #30 anymore...I was though at one point. I am looking forward to seeing you in the old line clown brigade as well, we are going to have a blast! I'll check out your social media, thanks for the information. 😊
