Hi I'm Greg! I'm a professional luthier, musician, and audio engineer who was introduced to the joys of clowning while working at Detroit's Theatre Bizarre ("The Greatest Masquerade on Earth"), where my band La Bas performed as musicians and lane entertainers / character actors for five years before I relocated to Pittsburgh to pursue a lutherie job opportunity. Prior to 2020, my clowning practice was restricted to performances with La Bas, in and outside of Theatre Bizarre, but always as a secondary layer to my musicianship, never as the primary focus of the performances.

Since relocating, I have been educating myself on all things circus-and-clown related as I aim to prioritize clowning more highly in my performance practice. I am particularly interested in clowning as an art form and a lens through which to view and interpret the world, above and beyond the level of professional entertainment. I believe clowning is at its best when it speaks truth to power, when it shows us something about ourselves or the world, when it extends our attention beyond ourselves, and when it makes us wonder about possibilities we've never before dared to dream.
